Did you hear the news? Samsung, the tech giant known for making fancy phones and fridges you didn’t ask for, has finally given its design department a glow-up. Enter Mauro Porcini, the newly minted Chief Design Officer flying in from the land of fizzy drinks, a.k.a. Pepsi. It seems like they’ve decided to take a page from Apple’s playbook and appointed their own version of Jonny Ive.

Why, you ask? Because creating a sleek smartphone should be as easy as making a cold soda can look appealing, right? For years, Samsung has poured chicness into its appliances while its phones looked like the awkward middle child—functional but anything but fashionable.

Porcini’s task is Herculean: transform Samsung’s phone designs to feel as exciting as switching on a smart fridge after midnight. Sure, he’s got his work cut out for him, but if anyone can make a gadget swoon-worthy, it’s a guy who knows his way around aesthetics—just look at what he did with Pepsi’s branding.

Let’s see if he can infuse that same magic dust into Samsung’s offerings. Or, who knows, maybe we’ll soon find ourselves swooning over a new phone that feels as refreshing as a crisp can of cola. Cheers to innovation, Samsung!

What do you think? Can Samsung finally step out of the fridge’s shadow?
