So, imagine this: a group of hackers linked to China, named Salt Typhoon, hanging around in telecom networks like uninvited guests at a party—only they’re not actively causing chaos right now. According to Brett Leatherman, the head honcho at the FBI Cyber division, these cyber miscreants are currently ‘largely contained’ and ‘dormant.’
Last year, the party got a lot rowdier when Chinese hackers decided to crash the telecoms’ best-kept secrets, targeting major providers like AT&T and Verizon. It was a real cyber circus, but the good news is that for now, the clowns are taking a break.
Of course, this doesn’t mean we pop the champagne just yet. Cybersecurity experts are still waving red flags, advising everyone to use encrypted apps for communication. After all, you don’t want to be the one who sends a top-secret message through a window made of glass.
So, is Salt Typhoon just a myth or a real concern? It appears they’re into hibernation mode, but we all know how that can change. Let’s just hope they stay dormant a little longer—or at least until we can find a better way to secure our digital lives!
