This just in: the founder of Camouflaj, one of Meta’s few remaining VR studios, has officially joined the unfortunate ranks of the laid-off. Yep, Ryan Payton confirmed that he rode the pink slip express this week, with Meta slicing through its Reality Labs division like it’s auditioning for a horror flick.

With Camouflaj now reduced to a handful of employees clinging to hopes of redefining the user experience for upcoming hardware, it’s fair to say that VR is taking a bit of a tumble. I mean, when your studio is downsizing faster than a trendy coffee shop during a recession, you know things aren’t sunny in Meta-land.

As the company continues to close three VR studios amidst metaverse budget cuts, one can’t help but wonder: is the virtual reality dream fizzling out, or is this just the blooper reel before the big show?
