Attention all Android users: If your device is rolling with Android 8 (Oreo) or Android 9 (Pie), you might want to start panicking… well, maybe not panic, but definitely start thinking about an upgrade.

In a recent announcement, Google has decided it’s time for Chrome to kick it up a notch. Chrome 138 will be the last version to support those old Android versions before we bid them adieu in August—because who needs an operating system older than your Spotify playlist?

So, what does this mean for you? After Chrome 138, your browser will still function on those not-so-sleek versions, but don’t hold your breath for updates. Google is banking on you joining the 21st century with Android 10 or later, because a browser that’s stuck in the past is like still using a flip phone in 2025.

If you’re still typing away happily on your ancient software, it might be time to consider an upgrade, unless you love living on the edge in a digital stone age. While the old versions may have been comfy, Chrome wants you to at least have a chance at loading pages without time travel.

Start clearing space on your phone because the future won’t wait for anyone—it’s time to step out of the tech dungeon and into the sweet sunlight of Android 10 or newer. So grab your smartphones and let’s get with the times!
