Ever tried to join a Google Meet and felt like you were living in an echo chamber, hearing your own voice bounce back at you like an annoying boomerang? Well, fear not! Google’s got a nifty new trick up its sleeve to help clear out that auditory clutter.
Introducing Companion Mode—your new virtual plus one. If you’re in a conference room, Google Meet can now use an ultrasonic signal to recognize your presence and whisper sweet nothings…or rather, a suggestion to join the meeting in Companion Mode. This feature is like having a personal assistant, minus the coffee runs (and possibly the sarcasm).
But before you get too excited, this fancy feature is currently only available for Meet on the web in Chrome. So if you’re planning to join from a different browser, well, you might want to bring some earplugs.
In a world full of digital distractions, Google is effectively saying, “We see you, we hear you, and we want you to hear less of yourself during those awkward silences.” Will this innovation reduce your echo-induced insanity? Only time will tell, but it’s a step in the right direction.
So, are you ready to ditch the echo and give Companion Mode a whirl? Or do you prefer serenading yourself during meetings?
