If you were anticipating a game-changing update from Nvidia’s latest GPU driver, you might want to sit down with a hot cup of disappointment. The new 576.40 driver promises fixes, yet it seems more like a gentle nudge than a Herculean effort.
Sure, it tackles a couple of annoying gremlins, such as some Asus displays booting up to black holes (not the cosmic kind, unfortunately) and the dreaded stutter on LG TVs with G-Sync enabled. Oh, and for those of you deep in the pixelated jungles of Monster Hunter Wilds, you might notice ‘random stability issues’ are finally addressed—because who doesn’t love a little unpredictability in their gaming experience?
Now, amidst the proverbial band-aid fixes, there’s a shiny morsel for the action-obsessed: optimizations for Doom: The Dark Ages, slated for release on May 15th. With support for idTech8 ray tracing and DLSS 4, it looks like your GPU might still have some life left in its silicon after all.
So, while the fixes may not scream “blockbuster update!” they do at least show Nvidia is keeping the wheels turning. \n
But really, are we just one step closer to a fully functioning GPU or endlessly fumbling with tiny patches? Who knows!
