Well, folks, it just got a little messier over at Customs and Border Protection (CBP). After a little mishap involving a hacker and a Signal clone named TeleMessage, they realized that maybe, just maybe, security isn’t something to skimp on—even for government agencies.
In case you haven’t been keeping up with the latest drama, a report from 404Media revealed that a sneaky hacker managed to waltz right into CBP’s private messages and snag all sorts of sensitive contact info. This tech fiasco came to light after Representative Mike Waltz was spotted using TeleMessage’s questionable app, which is like the off-brand soda of the messaging world (tastes similar but definitely less safe).
CBP spokesperson Rhonda Lawson was quick to announce that they “immediately disabled” this tele-communicative catastrophe upon discovering the breach. They’re still investigating the full scope of this digital nightmare, but let’s give them a break—it’s hard to keep your messages private when you’re using a clone that screams, “I’m not the original!”
So, what does this all mean for the future? Well, if you’re handling sensitive information, you might want to stick with the trustworthy version of Signal. Or, you know, just stick to carrier pigeons—at least they can’t be hacked.
